New Tank build sketch up 40B

I was looking at the original sketch up.

Thanks wysiwyg...Gotta give a shout out to Loki, he's helped me throughout all this planning.

Yes, that is correct, my T is what is feeding the fuge, not sure if i will lose a lot of pressure to push it back up to the return though?

I do think that ball valve in the fuge line is a far better idea, thanks.

You will lose the flow going into the fuge and maybe a little more becuase of the fitting (compared to it not being there)

So if I put that, than i can shut each one down, than turn off the skimmer and return pump and I'm safe right? than i just open and turn those on to be back up and running. For instance, when i need to clear out the gunk from the skimmer cup, id need to turn it all off right?

1 question, if I want to shut it off for whatever reason, say because i have to drain 10gallons of water out, how do I shut all this off without overflowing or spilling etc?

I have plumbed a drain into my main drain that has a ball valve. I can open the ball valve and easily get the water out for a water change.

I guess I don't understand what you want to shut off. You could put valves on everything, but your display will only drain down to the bottom of the teeth on the overflow box.

Do I drill all 3 holes on the same line across height wise from the rim or does the emergency one need to be slightly higher?

Yes all three holes should be drilled on the same plane. It looks like your drawing has it correct. A 90 for the drain pointing down, a 90 for emergency pointed up and the return at the same level.

If you use loc line I would put the return nozzle at the resting level of the tank (or a little higher) so that it wont syphon water back into the sump.

You wouldn't need to turn off anything to clean the skimmer. When I empty my skimmer cup I just take the cup off. I leave the skimmer running and let it dump the extra oxygen into the tank. I have no idea if this does anything but it confirms that my bubble trap works :)

If you want to shut the return pump off. The display will drain down to Its resting level. With you having such a big sump (compared to your display) I think there is a very small chance of an overflow.

Do you have quick connects after ball valves? I would suggest in case you ever need to move plumbing for whatever reason.

So you have a T on your main drain with a ball valve basically for the Water change? I like that idea and think i will do that as well. Do you just shut off the main drain valve than turn on the WC valve? How far did you make that plumbing?

what is the resting level of the tank ? Meaning top of the water level?

Should I use my 10gal Tal instead of this so I can than use my 20L as my QT say i need it for a bigger fish like an anthers or coral beauty or yellow tang "not saying I am getting one just saying for scenario purposes"

A quick connect is in with the PVC in home depot...you glue the PVC in on each side and the quick connect unscrews so if you need to take plumbing out for whatever reason you can. Def a good idea IMO!

I would use the biggest tank you can fit for the sump. More room for the back flow.

How many do you recomend and at which parts of my plumbing?

Enough to make it easy to separate your tank from sump in case you need to take them apart or move them. PVC is just so solid it's hard to move when it's connected.
