I'm adding a 2nd 140 gallon 1/2 round tank and in the process, I will build a common sump / refugium in the basement - driven by two new goby pumps that will push about 1000 gpm thru each tank. I'll try to post photos that might be of interest starting with this one which shows the input / output lines to the new 140 gallon. I'm running 2" lines to and from the sump. They diverge at manifolds - one of which is shown in the pic. I'll have 5 input lines and 3 return.

I got called for supper and didn't post the first of the plumbing pics. Here you see the 5 input lines and 3 return lines all mounted on the back wall. Some of it is temporary as I needed a way to plump the 5 input pipes you can't see yet. My hope is to have very good current coverage that I can easily modify my tweaking the valves. The return lines go to a manifold that is in the basement which converts to 2" pipe. I've drilled and installed an ESHOPP hang on return that I hope will handle the volume.

More on the plumbing pic. The 5 valves you see on the manifold can all be reached after the tank is pushed in against them. The outside valves can be reached from each outside edge of the tank and the 3 middle valves are reached thru holes in the back of the stand. I made a wrench that fits them to facilitate turning. The 3 pipes standing out from the 5 are the return lines. They go a few feet into the basement and into a 2" manifold that returns to the sump which is about a 14' run.

Looking good, can't wait to see more!

Here are a couple of more photos from the "sump" room in the basement. The larger, lower of the two tanks will be the main sump / refugium. The higher, smaller will be primary filtration. The two 2" return lines (one from each 140 gallon tank) will each run the length of the tank with 2" perforated pipe. I'll build an egg crate platform that I can layout sock material in an area about 40" xy 12". That water will fall down to the lower level that will have a sand bed that serves as filtration as well. The outlet bulkheads will have inlets close to the bottom of the tank and those bulkheads will allow water to flow out to the main sump at the skimmer end.
