new tank build

i am plan a new 300 gallon tank build
any suggestion on sump size hoe many gallons
also there will be 3-1 1/2 inch drains and 2- 1 inch returns will the drains be enough for good water movement
thinking of doing a external overflow
any thoughts

I believe sump size depends on many factors:
- will the sump have to fit inside the stand?
- you have a fishroom?
- what equipment will you place inside the sump?
- will you start with a refugium?
- you need to have in account to compensate for overflowing water during maintenance (power supply interruption)

In general, the bigger the better.
