still pretty risky since even the smallest chip can migrate the tiniest crack after the weight of water is added. Then Blooosh! you come home to an empty tank and ruined flooring.Thats not gonna leak at all. It’s the outside portion chipped nothing close to the seam.
I Agree!Thats not gonna leak at all. It’s the outside portion chipped nothing close to the seam.
Wow!A local club member bought a Chinese made tank and it came in chipped that was concealed with packaging. He didn't trust it so he sold it to me for $100. I filled it and it sat in my garage for two weeks and never leaked. I used it for two years and then sold it to a friend, who after a few years sold it again. I think the tank was moved like five times and never leaked. Fill it up and let it sit.

A neighbor was helping me bring it inside and he let go too soon. I’m so upset. Bought this tank as an “urgency”, not an emergency yet, but my 90G Waterbox is leaning and it’s making me nervous. Been cycling my rocks, storing tank water etc … ugh. Thanks for your input guys.Well the tank sitting on what looks like concrete and the chipped piece laying next to it with some smaller pieces of glass makes me think the OP may have dropped the tank on that corner. I hope not and that it was delivered damaged. My condolences either way but I would be hesitant to use it with that chip in the bottom corner. At the top maybe but I'm not a tank builder or expert. Just depends on your risk tolerance I suppose![]()
This is structural based on size and location of chip is of high risk for leak or pressure damage when filled. Pic suggests this was damaged after delivery?
so sorry this happened to you. my gut would be turning! My neighbor helped me to get my 75 on the stand and almost lost his end but he got his knee underneath and saved it. my heart almost fell out of my mouth when i saw him losing it.Wow

Please explain how it’s structural when the chip is nowhere even close to a seam…This is structural based on size and location of chip is of high risk for leak or pressure damage when filled. Pic suggests this was damaged after delivery?
Not worth filling from what picture shows
Would you trust a 1/8th inch piece of glass to hold back 800 odd pounds even if the seam was intact? How about 1/16th? How about 1/32nd? Guessing there’s a reason glass is a certain thickness and it’s not just the seams. Please explain how it’s structural when the chip is nowhere even close to a seam…
Having repaired over 70 tanks at my LFS, and collaborating with engineers from All Glass aquarium- there is a margin or closeness to the seam that makes the tank weaker under water pressure and its your tank. By all means , fill it if you wish and you will be the first to know. You say its no where near the seam- You are going by silicone and not the actual joint where the two pieces of glass meet. Please explain how it’s structural when the chip is nowhere even close to a seam…
