I've got a 90 gallon aqaurium with a 30 gallon sump I first added the saltwater to the tank and then the next day my livesand. After the livesand was added it clouded the tank quite a bit but over the course of 24 hours it's like milky white kinda cloudy I can't see through it at all really. I added live rock after the cloudiness thinking it may help. What's the cause of this cloudiness? Should I leave my sump on? Is it unsettled debris? Or is it the cycle of bacteria bloom starting? Or something different? Any help is greatly appreciated thanks

Mine took like four days after I added sand. Keep the pump and power heads on and keep a filter sock on the drain so you don't get a bunch of silt in your sump. It'll clear up. After it does if you move rock around it'll cloud up again.

Throw a filter sock on it will clear up pretty quick. The silt is beneficial though so ya could just wait it out and let it settle on its own

Thanks everyone I'll have to try a filter sock then if it doesn't clear up soon

I didn't wash my sand when I put mine in. I would recommend using a filter sock or fliter floss, cause once it gets disturbed, you're get a light cloud again.

I didn't wash mine either and there is no room for a filter sock I don't think because I have bio balls, unless I could attach it somewhere else?

Is the skimmer getting any of it? Sometimes it will if the material is fine enough. Set your skimmer to skim as wet as possible.

Unless you already have some livestock that would dictate otherwise, I would cut off all the flow and let the stuff settle - realizing you may have to "blow it" off the rocks a few times until it all manages to settle to the bottom, into your sand.

I don't have a protein skimmer right now and no livestock. In the sump I have filter media and under that bio balls nothing else in it yet. It looks like it's clearing up a bit now though

Hey I didn't have space for a sock neither, but I just found a way to shove filter floss and just a media bag with the floss in it.
