Hey Guys,

Im new to saltwater tanks. We have a 65gallon saltwater tank with live sand and about 30lbs of live rock. We filled up the tank added Seachem Prime and Stability. It has now been 18 days and the only results I get on the water test are ammonia at maybe 1ppm! With 0 Nitrates and Nitrite. PH may be a bit low. My temp is at 77/78F and salt is at 1.025/1.026.

Is it normal for it to take this long to start cycling?

Hello, what do you mean by live rock and sand? What is your ammonia source. Are you using tap water? You said you used prime.

Im not sure how else to explain live sand and rock..but this stuff

CaribSea Ocean Direct Natural Live Sand and live ocean rock!

I uses tap water to fill the tank and I added Prime. I didn't add any ammonia as by the time I tested the first time it was already present

Well many people claim live rock, but it ends up being something like " life rock" and live sand in a bag " ocean direct live sand" neither is true live sand out of the ocean. To help you next time you ask a question as a newbie, understand someone with experience ask these questions for a reason . Good luck

Yea forsure I can understand that, but the way this was explained to me was “live sand and rock”. Groups i follow and stuff also refer to it as that. My mistake for thinking it was the proper term.

I was looking for that for him, thank you

If you added rock from the ocean, then you should be all set to slowly and smartly add some fish.

If the rock was not from the ocean directly to you, then we need to figure out what it is. Not all wet rock from the fish store is actually live. Photo under whiter lighting is a good idea.
