Hello all,

About 3 days ago I filled my tank with live sand, some live rock (from previous owner), and rest dry rock.

Been cycling with no lights and no protein skimmer. Out of curiosity I tested the water and the results are:

Ph: 8.0
Ammonia: .25
Nitrate/nitrite: 0

Anything I should know or do with this reading? I’m in no rush to add fish or corals yet but just looking to be informed. *I have not added any cycling starter kits or added ghost feeding into the tank.

Thanks!

Your ammonia test is likely a false positive and isn't a concern. If you added wet live rock then the cycle has already been completed.

The sand needs to be live as well for (IMHO) for full potential. Until you deem that's happened I would hold off on fish (as you are doing). That'll give time to get the dry rock alive. What did you add to start the cycle? Both tissue related and liquid related?
