I recently started a new setup. I had 180 lbs of dead rock, so put in salt water for a month, then put in the sand and installed plumbing, sump, skimmer. 180 gallon tank. I then used Dr Tim's waste away on the dead rock waited 72 hours then did dr Tim's one and only for 48 hours, removed the filter sock and turn off skimmer for 48 hours. So now it has been 20 days since I added the one and only and the nitrites are still terrible and the ph is low - 7.7 or so. Diatoms bloomed this week and is growing very fast, which I worry about getting rid off. I have read that means you are getting close to the end of the cycle. I never added ammonia because i was told there was no need too because of the waste away and the dead rock. I also did and 20% water change on day 12. The ammonia has always tested 0. Do I just keep waiting?? All water used has been distilled purified water.
