New Tank, don't know what to get?

Hello,

It's probably been over 30-days of researching and thinking about my options and I'm at a complete lost. I've narrowed it down to the Waterbox 25g Peninsula, Nuvo 20g Peninsula, or a 14G peninsula.

Generally, my limit was going to be 20g, since I live in an apartment, but I really like the 25g Waterbox. I have a 32g biocube at home and am sick of the square sized space. I don't know if I should go 25G peninsula or the 20G Nuvo peninsula.

I don't know if this 5g water difference + displacement will make a difference. I'm also worried about the weight of 25g, since I will be using some IKEA furtniture.

I've contemplated 14g, but I feel that I might just want to upgrade out of that. I don't know my livestock options, but I would want to reserve more space for future fish/corals.. Currently I think I will just do a pair of clowns, and a fireshrimp.

Can someone help me?

#WelcometoR2R! It sounds like you are considering a nice range of tanks that should all do well. The weight and water on a IKEA furniture may be a concern to revisit.

i live in a third floor apt, i ended up getting a Redsea 170 ( 34 gallons) so i could have a lil bit more room for aquascape, i feel the smaller the tank the harder to work on the aquascape, since space is very limited

General rule of thumb... always go with the biggest tank that suits your limitations.

If the Ikea furniture can support the weight of it, I'd go with the Waterbox tank. Waterbox makes nice tanks, and you'll appreciate that little bit of extra space. The 25 would probably weigh about 250-275 pounds fully loaded. Going down to the 20, it would weigh probably 200 or so. Either way, I'd think your Ikea furniture should be able to handle it, depending on which piece of Ikea furniture we're talking about.

First off welcome to R2R. Secondly I personally would go with the waterbox. I would also be concerned about the weight on ikea furniture but if you have the ability it would be very cheap to build your own stand. I made one for a 65gal tank (way more sturdy than it even needed to be) for about $50

Shelf would just be placed onto it. Yeah, I kinda worry but also get mixed opinions when it comes to Ikea shelf. I've been sitting on the idea of the waterbox 25g for a while now, and my only concerns is the stand for it, since it will be much heavier on this stand. What do you think?

Depending on your DIY skills, building a stand out of 2x4's would be cheaper, and sturdier.

Welcome to R2R! I vote for the waterbox! I would def not advise using ikea furniture for anything over 10 gallons. I have used a computer desk from Ikea for a 10 gallon tank back in the day when I was in high school it held up for 7 years no problem But I would not recommend it.

2. Go bigger so you have more options and stable water parameters.

I didn't listen to this advice when I started and I had to replace my Ikea stand within 6 months or less. I highly recommend going another route.

Go bigger? He’s obviously looking for 20-40g max range. Is it worth 25 gallons for convenience of size or max out size at 40 gallons for water stability?
