im posting cause I'm done trying to search for answers. But I set up a new tank with all new equipment. I hand washed tank and parts outside with hose water, then stocked it with live sand, life rock and rodi salt water on Thursday. I've been running my return pump at 50% and skimmer on lowest setting with air valve closed cause it's been a foam bath otherwise. If I dare turn the air valve even a 1/16 turn open it'll make my sump overflow with foam. And it I try turning my return pump up higher then 60% it'll start to overflow out of the sump intake section.

Is this normal with a new setup?

Give it a bit of time. Your skimmer will break in. It took me a bit on the 93. I think I put it in one of my videos, and I was super frustrated.

Turn off the skimmer!!! Way to early in your tank to have a skim
Cheers! Mark

Yah I know my last tank 10 years ago I think I went a few months without a skimmer. Everything I read now days just seems all over, up/down, left/right about what to do and how to do it. So when I set this up I said screw it and put the skimmer in. This way it's ready to go and broke in when I need it, right? Can't hurt can it, maybe flood the floor if not careful apparently. Knock on wood

My 2 cents: If you run it now and your tank hasn't even cycled, you are probably skimming useful bacteria and disrupting the cycle.

I ended up changing out the flexible intake pipe and hard plumbed it to the sump. And instantly I could tell there isn't all sorts of air in the line causing the intake section to be all bubbly. Be running for an hour now and I'm liking the difference so far. Now back to the cycle
