Hi All,
I’m new to the forum and I want to thank you for the tons of information I’ve gotten from here so far.

I added a yellow gorgonian this week and so far it seems happy. I wanted some opinions on location as it is currently slightly against my rocks. Could this be an issue? I can’t say for sure but it looks happy as polyps have been out with the light. I’d love any feedback.
Also, for anyone who’s had these yellow ones, will I need to target feet with Mysis or should it pick them up on its own with flow?

Additionally have about 6-8 small hermit crabs and about 8-10 mixed snails and 4 peppermint shrimp.

thanks!

Have had the yellow and the red NPS…never again.
Personally, I don’t want any NPS gorgs in my tank, not worth the extra time and work to target feed them.
Many beautiful PS pieces are available and grow fast.

Your new NPS gorg needs moderate flow and should be located in a darker spot in the tank. If algae grows on it, the algae will smother it. Mysis is too big. Feed it either frozen rotifers or baby brine shrimp several times a day.

Would be impossible to keep long term unless your system contains Non Photosynthetic only.

A continuous drip of Marine Snow, Phyto and Zoo in the column is required.

Sorry to say that you picked one of the most difficult species to keep alive for any length of time. I certainly understand how tempting they are though as NPS Gorgs are some of the most beautiful creatures on the reef.
They basically feed 24/7. Keep at it though and I hope it works out for you!!

Thanks for the feedback all. Yes, the colors are great and at the local store here they were very inexpensive. I’ll give it my best.

what do you like as far as adding color to a newer tank. This one running about 2 months. I’d like to add a few plants or plant like corals that are relatively self sufficient.

For low maintenance maybe a leather or two. Check out Marinefarmers and Aquacorals for some ideas. Colors will mainly be various shades of pink, green, and tan. After the tank has “fully cooked” and is stable around 9 months or so, look into at adding ricordea or zoas for color pop and photosynthetic gorgs for height.

I added "regular" gorgonians at 6 weeks in. They're growing very well but can be moody ;) they add great height to the back of the rockwork. good light and good flow they like.
A neon tip toadstool is another good place to start, although I would get through the diatom stage first before adding. Diatoms covered mine and caused it to close up for almost 3 weeks ;Facepalm No need to wait 9 months in my opinion, just add slowly.
