I recently lost my 260litre tank to a seal break and have been forced to change tank. I now have a 150litre tank and 75litres of water from my old tank (only water not sand) my fish and corals and anemone and on holiday at my LFS as I didn't have a spare tank at the time to house them. How do you recommend introducing my fish into my new tank (can't stay at the LFS for too long) without me losing everything? Any help will be grateful :)

Did you keep your live rock from your previous tank? Keeping water from your prior tank will help as far as the water parameters, however it will not help cycle the new tank. Before introducing your livestock, take your time to ensure the new one is cycled.

Yes kept all the liverock. Have about 25/30KG that has stayed in the cycled water. The fish shop has given me a few days but not sure how long

You wont get much of a cycle if any at all. Half of your water volume is already cycled.

This is basically like doing a 50% water change.

It is your rock & substrate that hold the beneficial bacteria. Which keep your water free of ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. So if your rock is healthy you should be ok. Just keep an eye on your ammonia levels for a bit.

Since you kept your live rock, you will experience much less of a cycle, if any at all. I should have asked about sand, if you had any. Reusing sand without a good since can cause issues. What I would do is have a good amount of new saltwater ready for when you set up again. Before adding your rock into the tank, use some of the old water to rinse your rock (give the rock a good swirling in the water) to get any grime off it. Again, the old water will help as far as keeping your parameters stable (Ca, Mag, Alk) but it does not help with a cycle. I would still acclimate your livestock into the tank when you bring them home. Odds are the LFS has different parameters than your tank. Better safe than sorry.

I am going through same deal. Seal leaking so had to fet new tank. I have my live rock but changed substrate so im waiting out a small cycle. I have my livestock in a 30gal tub in front room by the tank. So instead of risking livestock, you could do the same with a big rubber container if fish store wont keep them. Unless you hav some large fish or something
