Starting a new tank, especially with say,...75g (+) with rock, sand, sump, skimmer, filters, reactors etc,
how can you know the real amount of water that's in the entire system ?

If you add any chemicals that require pretty close to total amount gallons, you can be a little off, to a big amount. So, I'd like to know how you assess your gallons of water.

I just guessed my sand and rock amount and my 125g tank and came up with these results. Not including other equipment & accessories...

WEBSITE-

Select your tank from the list OR Enter the dimensions in the form below.
Height inches
Width inches
Length inches

Or (which I chose)

Enter the information below

Depth of Sand bed- 3"
Live Rock weight-140lb.
Tank Size gallons- 125

Calculated Tank Water Volume- 94 gallons.

This calculator bases the live rock volume at 7.48 gallons per 85 lbs of rock.

It sure is.

Now, all the other filtration can be fairly easy to figure easy to do, buy using measured amounts of water like a gallon to a 5 gallon bucket, then pour it into your sump, skimmer, a reactor, refugium, etc....

Thanks Fish E

The first thing to do is calculate water volume based on internal rather than external dimensions. That’s likely to be a bigger difference than trying to estimate displacement.
