so I’m about to set up my first tank. Question is besides doing water changes and testing, in your opinion about how long does it take to complete a cycle. I’ll be starting the tank with ro water, salt and dry rock. Still up in the air about doing sand or bare bottom. Thanks in advance

There are alot of factors that come into play. Some tanks cycle in as little as a week, others can take up to 6 weeks.

I used Dr. Tim’s, RODI water and dry rock with bare bottom and lights off. Fish-less cycle took me 4 weeks before I saw Nitrates. I then added sand and waited another 2 weeks before calling my cycle compete. NO LIGHTS during the entire cycle. I then did a 95% water change. So yeah 6 weeks for me. No lights and 95% water change helped me with no diatom issues till date.
