So I did some home remodeling and my wife asked me about moving my 75 gallon reef tank from the game room upstairs to our den which is on the first floor of our house. so I got the tape measure out and showed her where it would sit. Then she asked if I could get a bigger tank....so now I am looking to get a 180 gallon. My question is about the sun light with the two windows in that room. We always keep blinds on them and we do keep them closed since she works from home and uses the computer all day in that room. Should I be worried about Sun light in this situation???

I have a 120 right next to a set of sliding doors. It's set up as a peninsula so a lot of exposure. We too keep the sliders covered during the day most of the time. I've never noticed any negative effects from the sunlight. I would strike while the iron is hot and get that upgrade started. :) Just my $.02.

When your spouse suggests that you upgrade the tank, you stop asking questions and start tank shopping.

Several of my tanks get some sunlight, including a reef that I would estimate gets 1-2 hours of direct sunlight a few feet away from a window. Unless it's several hours a day then I wouldn't worry about the light, especially if you keep the windows mostly covered.

Depending on where you live the temperature might be the bigger issue. I would make sure that being near the windows won't cause a temperature swing in either direction. If it's a no-go then keep the new 180 that you should have bought already and put it where the 75 is now :)

Had a 90 directly in front of a large, east facing, picture window for about 5 years. Blinds closed most of the time, (not solid, thick blinds either. Horizontal, white, tiny holes for the strings, tiny beams of light would shine through at times... Basic blinds).
No issues. No real algae or film growth issues.
