Hi guys,

I've recently brought a new tank (ROMA 240) & I would like to install a sump (88L custom made). I'd also like to add a weir to my display but im not sure how i would work out how many holes i would need to drill in the tank, flow rates etc...

What are the key factors/calcautions i need to know before attempting this?

Sorry ive tried to do research myself but i have no idea where to start..

Decide on your max water flow. Then decide on what type of drain you want (just a bulkhead, herbie, dursa or somethng else) then determine the size of plumbing you'll need to handle the amount of water you're moving through the drain you've slelected. Myself I prefer just a simple bulkhead at the bottom of an overflow and I know one 1" bulkhead will handle about 1000 gph easily and I like Mag 5s and like have redundancy so minus the head loss I can use 2 MAg 5s for return and just one 1" bulhead for drain. If I decided on 2 Mag 7s which combined would be ~1400 gph I would use two 1" bulkhead fittings.
