So I have had my tank set up now about 3 weeks. 55gal w/ 40lbs LR & 70lbs substrate(sand/crushed coral) mix-20gal sump w/ Skimmer and chaeto. Non-stocked. I woke up this morning to find brown rusty colored "fuzzy" rock and substrate, nothing on glass. Water tests seem to be ok, not perfect, as I know my tank is still cycling. After a few searches, I have a bunch of opinions as to if this is good or bad and what I need to do. Some saying hurry quick your tank is going to be overrun and have to start over to others saying it fine and let it run its course. 2 different extremes there. My initial thought is its just part of setting a new tank up to mature, but this is my first SW tank so I am fairly open to those that have done this before. Any thoughts from the experienced folks here that could help? Should I look into "cleaner crew" shortly or continue to let it be? Thanks in advance.

Likely just diatoms, which will generally appear, then disappear, during a tank cycle. :)

Agree with the above on diatoms, if you want to post a picture would help to verify. Nothing to worry about common in a new tank :D

as stated above nothing to concern yourself with pics can make it 100%verified though

Here are a couple photos I was able to get this morning.

Diatoms for sure, they will go away. Have you considered different rock? The rocks should be porous calcium carbonate rocks, they will have much more area for filtration.

Thanks for verifying. Yes more rock is to come, just bills come first, so next week plan is to pick up some different types. These were a start at a good price.
