I am new to the hobby and leaning towards getting the Innovative Marine 75g INT since I like the look, size, and want to back the tank up against a wall. I plan to keep mostly soft corals, a few fish, and some inverts, but nothing experienced reefers would consider difficult or advanced. My question involves the sump setup: what combination of filter roller, protein skimmer, refugium (or all three) would best minimize tank maintenance and water changes? Second, what sump would you use if you knew it was going into an IM 75g INT tank? I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

I would suggest figuring out what kinda of fish you want to do. You will get a lot of ideas and what works for others but may not work with your life, your tank, or budget. If you only want two clownfish and a few snails in the tank, there is no need for a larger protein skimmer. If you want tons of smaller fish or a tank or two, then I would search out a larger skimmer.

Get a budget and see what other Reefers are using on their set up.

If you are looking at sumps, get the measurement of the sump area, plan where the electronics will go, and then find that sump that will work. Trigger sumps are really good and I have one. Eshopp as well has a great sump(older generation), the new ones can collect detritus underneath them. I had that problem with my newer eshopp one, never my older style one. With both those sumps including the trigger there are filter socks. Roller mat are tough with both these brands for it to possibly fit underneath.
