New Tank Questions

Ok. New to hobby. Had a Waterbox 20 cube on order, and honestly hated the 2 month wait so cancelled it. Now considering a Reef Octopus Lux T60. Larger tank with a sump, which I like. Any opinions on this or suggestions for first tank? Have also browsed RedSea. Thanks in advance.

Can't speak to the other two tanks you mentioned, but the Red Sea setups are great. They take a lot of the guess work out of it for newer hobbyists and have a nice, clean aesthetic. You will pay a bit of a premium compared to most other all in one brands, but I feel the quality is high enough to warrant it.

I really like the RedSea reefer 250. It is more expensive, but I am thinking it will be worth it in the long run. I was already thinking of upgrading the 20gallon before I even had it! LOL!

I just did a quick price check on it, if the price I saw is about right it seems a lot for the size, is the Red Sea reefer 250 not around the same price? It’s a lot bigger too.

I might have the prices wrong, I’m in the UK so swapping to dollars can make things go astray.

You are correct. Im really leaning towards the Red Sea. Much cleaner look and a better reputation.

So, went with Red Sea Reefer 170 with Reef with Reef LED 90 light. Added skimmer. Looking forward to getting started.

I like it, no messing about!

Those are the 2 tanks I was considering, the 170 and 250, I really like the shape of the 170, good choice.

Freshwater was where I began and I still love my planted tanks. That being said, reef aquariums are an awesome new challenge for the aquarist! Great choice with the tank. I think you will enjoy it a lot.

I really like the Red Sea lineup. I have a few setup at my work. They’re truly plug and play, especially the aio tanks like their max nano and Reefer E-260. One thing is that they’re priced relatively high for what you’re getting. Quality wise, Red Sea is just as good as the competitors like innovative marine or water box; it just comes down to personal preference.

I started with that tank but it was the earlier model. Definitely a nice size for a variety of fish species and corals, though I did eventually upgrade to an off-brand 60g cube with a sump, for me this is the perfect size.
