Already have a reefer 450 but have an opportunity to buy a pair of Picasso clownfish and going to keep them for about a month in a 30L tank whilst I set up and cycle a bigger tank.

I don't have a skimmer so will change water every 2 days by 10% to keep water quality good and will move about 2kg of rock and 30L of saltwater from main tank tank to hopefully prevent a cycle.

The clown fish are 2.5 inches and 2 inches long, so fairly small.

A couple of questions-

Should I add a Powerhead or an air stone?

What problems do you think I will have?

Is the tank too small?

Should I put a bag of phos and nitrate remover in although not much flow? Was going to use regular water changes to keep parameters low so maybe not.

Should I use atm colony to cycle or rely purely on live rock which is 12 months mature. Do I need more than 2kg for 2 fish?

Have I missed anything?

My plan. Is to set up a tank in garage and eventually try my hand at breeding but as they are only about 12 months old will probably need to wait a year or so but I am patient and may also get another pair of common clowns who are older to breed 1st. I understand common clowns are easier to breed.

Here are the clowns in current owners tank

Something to oxygenate the water would be good - powerhead, airstone or foam filter. I cycle tanks with pure ammonia, nothing else. I would skip anything from a bottle to cycle a tank. the beneficial bacteria won't be in the water column so no point in transferring any water. tank size seems fine and with regular water changes, you probably won't need any media.

Thanks

Good to know I am on the right track.

I think I will skip the colony and stick with the mature rock. Will go with a small Powerhead to get some surface movement and go with that.
