Hello to all you reef nuts out there...
I had a reef tank back in the dark ages (almost 30 yrs ago), and have been telling the wife for years now, when I work the project list down, I want a reef tank again! Well, I was offered a working 225 gallon set up, and so... couldn't pass up the opportunity, even though the project list is not where I would have pulled the trigger.
This is an unusual size tank as it was custom built to be in an island wall and viewed from both sides. It is 52" long, x 36" wide, x 30" tall with the return chamber on one side. It's not the shape I would choose, but I'm going with it... this tank was well established for 5 yrs, beautiful fish, good filtration, and programable LED lighting. It has a large sump (probably 75 gallon tank) with a 3' UV light on the sump supply side into a sock, with a protien skimmer, and plenty of room that I am planning to add a refugium.
Anyway... with that tank being so wide and not long, I feel like it needs some unique reef wall build ideas, and I'm asking All you for your ideas, thoughts, input, and recommendations..?
We are not planning on setting up the tank double sided. So, specifically I'm hoping to get ideas on making a reef wall that's not just flat against the back. but unique, and taking advantage of... AND using the 35" of depth!! I have thought of a reef wall something like a W, that covers both sides, and again comes out in the middle.
Any way we slice it up, I want to make aesthetically pleasing use of that depth.
So... hoping you all will come up with some good ideas for us!
Thank you all for any help!!
Dave

What about a sloping wall, start in the center and slope to the back that way you have ALOT of room for corals :)

That's a good idea... Thanks!
I'm not a coral nut... but it appears things have changed (DRAMATICALLY) since I was in the game many years ago. So I'm sure my tastes will evolve as I learn and am around it more n more. I do feel like I want something a bit different, variation in height, depth, etc....
