Hi all,
I am currently in the process of setting up my saltwater aquarium. I have tried to keep it as simple as possible. It is going to be mainly fish only with 3 or 4 large soft corals.

my question, is the set up so far correct/looking suitable

Specs/equipment.
-310litre 4 ft tank.
-All pond solutions filter EFX + built in 9w UV.2000 L/H.
-25 litre auto top off tank.
-JBL in-line 500w heater.
- 2 x reef tide tmc 4000 L/PH wavemakers.
- 2 x spectra LED lights.

- 15kg eco fine sand TMC.
- 25kg DD aquascape dry rock.

Thanks

I don't have any experience with canisters or the in-line heaters, but I would be worried that the contact time in the heater wouldn't be enough to keep the tank temp stable. I'm sure there are others on here that can help.

It says that it’s rated up to 600litres so I think should be ok. I will get a thermometer for the tank anyway before adding any livestock to check temperature can be maintained.

you may want to look at something like the following for the ATO if you do not have one already:

XP Aqua Sumpless ATO Complete Aquarium Auto-Top-Off System for Sumpless Aquariums

yes you will need an ATO. other wise you are going to be topping off 2-5X per day

I have never ran a reef with a canister before I hear it can be done tho. you just really have to clean it out every week. what are your media plans in it?
looks like you dont have alot of rock for bac. I would suggest the really good media in there and lots of it.

most reefers just find it easier to use sumps cheap and easy to make with a chain store aquarium like the 40br gives one lots of options.
if you dont want to drill the tank get a life reef HOB overflow hands down the best and 100% safe HOB overflow.
something to think about.

your off to a great start!

lets us know if you have any more thoughts or questions lots af really amazing and helpful people on R2R.

Already have an auto top off.
Have this one hooked up to a 25 litre tank in the stand.

oh and another thought.
have you looked in to the NSA style aquascapes there fun to build and will add alot of style points and beauty to a fish only tank + it looks nice and will give you more surface area for Bac.
just a thought.

I have experience with canisters that’s why I wanted to use canister filter. It will need cleaning out more yes.

also I have Ceramic rings on the bottom floor of the canister, then tray 1 has 3 sponges different thickness, tray 2,3 and 4 has marine biohome ultimate media. Then 2 bags of carbon at the top.
