So its been about 12yrs since i started a tank from scratch and i need some advice. I will b setting up a 34g tank in the next week or so. I will be using some existing live rock i have along with new rock. Also i will b using all new saltwater. No old water. My question is when i first set up the tank do i run the protein skimmer or wait until it cycles. What about if i was going to use gfo or biopellets. When do i add that stuff?

The skimmer I'd run right away, that'll help remove the decay and such from the rock. GFO right away only if your going to use Tap Water. If your not using tap, theres no reason to start out with it. No reason to start with bio pellets, as theres nothing in the tank to remove as of yet, and you want Nitrates to build in the rock and substrate first, before you try and remove the excess.
Wait on the GFO to see if yoiu are even going to need it. Same with the Bio Pellets. Might not need em for a few months.

TAP WATER!! what that is no good. What do u live an an area that has rodi for the municipal water source? If not i would not use tap water simply for the fact of all the metals like copper pipes that come with the tap water.
