I've been ready here for a couple of days Ive seen alot about switching over to this method with current tanks but I will be starting my tank in Jan it will be a 75 gal tank barebottom with a 40 breeder sump my 2 main questions are when should I do my first test? And will the 40breeder sump provide a big enough fuge for my tank?

Buy an ammonia badge that hangs inside the tank. You can watch the ammonia cycle with it. When it starts dropping, your nitrites are beginning. When it is clear, then test for nitrate.

I know the basics of setup I was just wondering about the triton test that has to be mailed off if I needed to wait after the cycle was done and fish were added or when :) sorry bout the confusion

Ah great! Also would you do a 40 breeder sump/fuge or a 75 gallon sump/fug?

Well see I saw the fuge needed to be a certain percentage of the tank volume so trying to decide 40 breeder or just get a 90 display and use the 75 as a sump! Hah atleast it would make a good story to the wife :)
