I did not know how hard and how much work goes into building a tank stand. Don't be fooled by all those youtube videos. I did not have a table saw and only had a miter saw. My first cut 2 x 4 I realized it was not straight. I spent over 1 hour building a jig so i can do straight cuts. So I will continue and post come pics when tank stand is finished.

It took months to build my stand...but, i was only able to work on it occasionally a couple hours at a time. It will be difficult without a table saw if you plan on skinning the stand with plywood...but, you could do it with a regular circular saw. If using a circular saw, use a straight edge board clamped to your plywood to help make your long cuts straight. I still need to put the doors on my stand... working on plumbing now.

Straight edges, tape measures and clamps are your best friend if you don't have a chop saw or tables say.

I've been cutting plywood with a jig saw, clamps and a 2x6.

Nice.. Same here I can only work on my tank a few hours a week. I am going to stain my tank so it will take a while. I have my tank coming in tomorrow and wife is not gonna be happy seeing a tank inside a wood box in the middle of the room lol.

I was going to strain my stand so I initially used oak plywood. But, it was impossible to find oak trim locally, so I changed mid-build and decided to paint the stand instead. Just tell your wife how beautiful it will eventually be and that you can't rush art, lol.
