Hey, guys! I'm ordering a new tank! 60x30x30 peninsula. They offered me two types of sump design. Despite the separate ato, which design is better. And any other suggestions? (sump will be 25 in width not 20 )

Sump 1.

is it better to have all of the flow that goes through your skimmer/roller chamber to also go through your refugium?

Would you rather have a separate (independently controllable) flow in the refugium?

Design 1 seems to have you using another pump/line into the refugium and keeps that separate from the skimmer/roller. Design 2 puts refugium inline so everything that comes out of the your skimmer/roller chamber goes through the refugium also.

I used design 2 for years on an 80 gallon reef, I would consider this a fairly standard and common sump design.
Design 1 is more for separate control of flows/sources.

Thanks for the fast reply. this is what they told me "Regards to the second design we run the refugium off of one of the outlets on the manifold" . This is my first tank with sump, so I don't know much about it. I thought it better to ask it on r2r. You guys must know more about this.

I personally like design 1 because it gives you more volume in the refugium. I ran one like that for several years. My new setup is a purchased sump so design 2. Both work.

I'm currently going with Design 1 for my diy build. I like the idea of the pods escaping the fudge into the return area to be shot up into the display. I can also tune the return pumps flow to the refugium with a valve through the manifold I'm going to build.

Thanks. I'll go with the first design.
