so my 20g long has a .5g hob fuge with cheato and maybe .5 gal hob filter that’s holding biomedia. I started the tank almost a month ago. Added in a larger bottle of dr Tim’s one and only and a bottle of biospira. Ended up with spiking nitrates last week. Wondered if it had been too much bacteria added and a die off of it caused it to spike 50+ (Anyone know if that much bacteria can cause a die off that would affect your nitrate like that?) Did a 20g+ wc over the last week and I’m down to 2ppm nitrate today’s test. But I have this maybe 3 ish day old occurrence that I believe I saw last week. This algae on the glass (barebottom too) and bit on the rock. Is this just part of the cycling? Should I scrape it off the glass? Leave it? I already have a cuc in so should be ok there. Might get some more snails.

First, slow down!

That tank looks pretty well stocked for being set up less than 30 days.

Were you testing ammonia and nitrite during this time? What are/were those numbers? 50+ ppm nitrate on a new tank tells me that the cycle wasn't done yet. Just adding bottles bacteria doesn't negate the requirement to ensure the tank is cycled, though it may speed up the process.

Looks like a typical one month old tank to me. Change 10% of the water once a week and let your cuc work for a while.
