New tank ugly stage

the brown are diatoms. This is the easiest problem to deal with, no need to do anything except wait. It feeds off the silicates, usually from new sand, it usually dies off in a couple of weeks (to be replaced by nastier algaes later on)

The diatoms will go away after a while. Don't put any Clean up crew in there yet as it will kill them.

I didn't, it covers up the brilliant white sterileness of the rock which I find offensive. So just keep the tang gang and Trochus snails around to keep it somewhat in check. About 6-7 months in total, coralline starting to grow. Thinking about adding some rock from KP aquatics or TBS, but tenative due to pests and starting with a "clean" tank (professionally quarantined fish, clean macroalgae for the refugium) and such.
