New tank vs. new flooring.

Should I wait an indefinite amount of time for new flooring before setting up the tank?

  • Screw that noise! Get that tank up and running! worry about the flooring later!

  • Yes. You'll regret it when you have to tear the tank down for the flooring install.

Hey guys. I've been out of the hobby for a while, and I'm itching to get back into it. I have everything sitting ready to go with a Red Sea reefer 170. Thing is, I really want to get the flooring in the living room replaced sometime soon, but I have no idea when that may be.

I say rip up the flooring where the tank is going put down some tile or marble there nicely start up your tank then when it's time to do the new floor u won't have to worry about under the tank

That's a very good idea and one I've been seriously considering!

Extremly wise idea i know someone who did the same and also reinforced the ground. Then as you said he layed marbel down on the tank area and a little to the front

Yea the only thing is is this your forever home? If not it will look odd when you go and sell the house but u could always put an electric fireplace over it when ur trying to sell it

I was in the same exact boat as you, picked up a new 120g to upgrade to but decided to hold off till the floors were done. Well 2 years later and Im now setting up my 120g.

I put tile down in the corner where the tank will be. The tile will only extend about 6 inches out from the tank. Got enough flooring that I can fill in that corner when it's time to sell.

I just did the same thing in my basement. Area for tank i installed tiles. The rest installing vinyl premium. In case of basement flooding and need to change the floor tank will stay.

Another thing is tile on slab is as solid a base as you can get.

Thanks for the input guys. 99.9 percent sure this is where I'll be for a loooong time. I did see a thread where someone took this approach with a tile section. This is only a 170 so 4 twelve inch tiles would be enough, though I may want more for splashes or spills. There is currently carpet, which I don't know how would react to cutting out a square. This may just be the route I take.
