It should be fine. Personally, I would try to save them, since I am a fan of biodiversity. But who knows… maybe they will make itawesome! so its safe to just leave them and let them die off?
!I am dosing with phytoplankton already trying to sustain a copepod colony before I put fish in so I guess it will happen either way. I got it from a local shop in Ohio called, Aquatics Galore LLC. I used it to cycle my tank I am very surprised anything lived off of it.It should be fine. Personally, I would try to save them, since I am a fan of biodiversity. This is so cool thank you so much I will give all this a read!It's one of the cryptic sponge species encountered in marine systems. Beneficial. The rock looks like a piece of sculpted sand stone or "wonderstone" so it seems the sponges have grown on it in an aquarium. It will tolerate being out of water, not sure where the assumption air kills them came from but sponges survive on maricultured live rock shipped without water. Steve Tyree has been extolling the virtues of sponges for 3 decades for reef systems. Research shows sponges are critical recyclers in reef ssytems removing Dissolved Organic Carbon ~1000X faster than the bacterioplankton removed by skimmers. You'll probably see some dieoff of the sponges that are getting direct light but that will be compensated by new growth elsewhere in aquascaping where there's lower light levels.
