New Tank

New 125 gallon aquarium, do I need protein skimmer right away?

Welcome to R2R and congratulations on the new tank! You will likely get a range of feedback about when to add the skimmer, but IMO you can wait a bit depending on the bioload (e.g., fish waste, feedings, other organic material, etc.).

Thank you. It looks like I will have to wait, just looked at the prices online [emoji32].

I have already spent over 1,000 and I don't have a single fish

Another stupid question that I am sure has already been answered:

Does the copepod breeding tank (not attached to aquarium) need water aeration?

Do yourself a favor and don't count the cost too closely. Kinda takes the fun out of it. ;)

I would say that if you're raising pods in a separate system, you'll definitely want some form of aeration.

For the pods, just add an air pump and air stone. You need something to move a little water so it does not get stagnant and stink. It is more for you than the pods.

Just put one in... Hope it it's not to late. Copepods went about 4 hours with no water movement

They will be fine. Thye are not picky. They will live in your reactors, media bags and anywhere that looks like a hiding place and has some algae

Dang.. for some reason I am just now seeing these responses.
