I am about to buy a used 125 gallon Marineland with existing fish for my first saltwater tank. I went to look at it and all seems ok. I noticed the silicone in the corners of the tank is caked with algae and looks black. I have heard this is a common older tank issue. Is there any way to clean this off the silicone without damaging the silicone or am I just stuck with it? The last thing I want is to develop a leak and have 125 gallons on my floor too so I didn't want to start scrubbing on it with brushes or cleaners.

Dont clean the silicone. If you must do something, wipe it gently with a paper towel. Dont rub it. My bet is the algae has grown into the silicone.
