I have a 90 gallon tank that has completed it's cycle. I plan to start adding a pair of clown fish this weekend and move into adding some LPS and Zoa corals. I want to start out with corals that are on the easier side for beginners. Here is my question. I'd like to get corals with the following colors, red, blue, orange, purple, and pink. (everything seems to be green and/or tan). Here are a few that I am looking at:
  • Red or Purple Flower pot
  • Pink Birdnest
  • Purple tipped frogspawn
  • Yellow tipped torch
  • Zoa's (Rasta, Organge Bam Bam, Red Candy Apple, Eagle eye)
Can you suggest some others that I can consider that would be good for a beginner?

Sunny ds are my favorite and one of the nicest zoas out there. Other than that just get a few frags and wait and see how they do. The worse thing to do is get a bunch of stuff and put it at the same time. Just be patient and tou will save a lot of money.

Thanks. I plan to start slow. Just trying to get a good plan so i don't end up getting something that i regret down the road. Do Zoa's grow fast? Can you put a couple different Zoa's close to each other (like a garden)? How toxic are they?

If you take care of your parameters and have good lights you should see from 3-6 polyps a month. Yes you can put them next to each other but try to put them similar size if not usually the bigger polyps will outgrow the smaller ones. They're only toxic if you cut them and their juice falls in your eyes or a cut.
