Just set up my first tank and the water is really cloudy I used carabsea arabalive sand and I’m wondering if it what’s causing the water to be milky or is that only because it’s a new tank and the sand is still in suspension?

Regular sand needs to be rinsed a lot before using it. I‘m guessing the “alive” sand isn’t supposed to be rinsed as much as regular sand. But I would still expect water to be cloudy for several days. I’ve never used this version of the caribsea product but I’m guessing everything will settle.

Good luck with your new tank.

If you did not rinse the sand before putting it in your tank, then it will take 1-2 days for that to settle.

I don’t actually recall if this sand is actually alive but if it is, you can assume the aliveness has been distributed onto every surface, nook and cranny in the tank, along with a white dust. It will clear, you may need dust off surfaces, if you don’t like the look.
