Slarti from down under (Australia if you were not sure). I design planets and my favourite part of the job is creating coastlines...in my spare time I look after a small reef tank!

Well truth be told not a lot to look after at the moment. I started my first marine tank a little over 12 months ago but had to move house about a month ago so in the lead up to the move did not buy anything new for the tank which left me with a black clown and pajama cardinal. My hard corals did not appreciate the move and my bulb anemone decided to look up the powerhead after almost 8 months in the tank!

Anyway, in the process of 'cooking' my rock to get rid of some severe algae growth I had (couple of weeks to go) after which I will start all over again.

Hope to share some pictures as I move along.

PS My avatar is the ill fated anemone which decided to look up the powerhead...

Welcome to R2R from Texas!!!

I hate to heard about your algae issue and your anemone accident. It looked really nice from what I can see.

I wish you well in your journey of starting over.

I guess that makes us for "up over.":D

Welcome to R2R.

With you doing a re-start, it's a great time to start a "Member's Tank" thread. There you can post about your tank, including pictures.

Again, welcome!

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

In respect to the algae, had issues almost from the start i.e. it just never went away after the original cycle and give or take stayed about the same even with parameters within acceptable limits. In the end I assume it had something to do with the live rock I bought so doing the cooking to get them nice and clean and will go from there. Also waiting on some lighting I ordered and will install a DIY algae scrubber while I am at it. Hopefully it will all be a little easier after all of that.

Yes, the anemone was hiding behind a rock for a long time and came out just a few weeks before I moved the tank. Of course then it went on its little walk and that was that! The two remaining fish, won't surprise me if they grow legs and start walking around the house. They have been through a lot and just keeps going. With the move I managed to break the overflow pipe and for almost a week had no flow outside of the powerhead running in the tank itself, no heater, no cooler, no skimmer just a powerhead and they still looked happy! This after all the people in the know told me to expect everything to die in the move. Same story after the anemone did it's party trick but hey, they still going.

I will look at setting up a build thread if I get some time...

Welcome to R2R @Slarti, I look forward to your post and seeing your system:)

Welcome to R2R! Glad to have you here!

Welcome to r2r,
Did I read that right? You design planets? Care to elaborate? I'm curious, that's all

Sorry Dramad, only pulling your leg. Just the nerd in me coming out, comes from Douglas Adam's books and a character in there called Slartibartfast and from where my sign-on name comes from.
