New to hobby - 58L - 5th week cycle

Hi All,
hope everyone is staying sane through the Zombie Apocalypse ..
Peter from Queensland Oz here.
Have started this hobby 5 weeks ago and would like to share some stats for comments/advice.

As per attached, the cycle for the 58L Tank is now in its 5th week and before I start adding fish, Invertebrates, coral I want to make sure its all on the right track... as in should I deal with small bits of Cyano before adding Livestock etc..

You are off to a great start with your cycle! You can hold off on Alk, Calc, Mg, PO4, and NO3 tests for now - this will save reagents for future tests. Excellent that you are already proficient in these tests.

For comparison, here’s how my cycle went:
I used Dr Tim’s as well and added ammonia nitrate to speed up cycle.

Welcome. You were cycled as of 8/8/21. Water change and start reefing. Doesn’t hurt to wait and great logging of parameters. This will keep you on the right track for success. Patience is key in this hobby.

Dr Tims is ready in a week or less and your notes show cyano spotting, any new growth at all even if not cyano is a marker of completion on top of known timeframes already studied for bottle bac


your ammonia isn’t really what it seems, that’s just the best your kit can read the time underwater is what mattered and no cycles are incomplete on week five. Nitrite has no bearing, none at all, it’s a neutral param in updated cycling science like helium levels would be lol

The most important part now is disease prevention, skipping disease preps and adding pet store fish is what just about everyone does….don’t

see fish disease forum for the long, boring, necessary process that separates us from freshwater aquarists

hard to tell from blue pics but that may have been skip cycle live rock already wet from a pet store. If it came home wet to your tank it was ready on day one, if it came home dry what D said above applies

using real ocean water alone without any supplementation would’ve cycled you by now just the same. It does not matter one iota if you input 2 ppm of ammonia, that’s not required. You’ve done what’s required, now time for quarantine and fallow preps

thank you for your reply.
I will head over to do some reading re fish diseases & introducing livestock...

No Live rock used. I was advised to stay away from live rock as it may introduce too many nasties..
I bought a few kg of the below from a local store.
