Hi,
I started my reef tank about 4 months ago. Have been working with lfs to get a good feel for acclimation, proper pacing of set up, etc. Recently we have experienced some dramatic changes and want to make sure we aren't looking at a mass extinction event in the tank. Currently we have a clown, spotted gobi, yellow tang on the fish front. Small clean up crew, maybe 4 snails and 7 or so hermit crabs. A fairly decent sized zoanthid colony (maybe 5x6, similar sized gsp, a small hammer, xenia, and torch frag. It's all in a 45gal, we were worried it might have been too much too fast, but our lfs assured us all was well....
Onto the trouble. A recent interaction with the lfs has left us questioning their compitency... then this happened.
New addition to the tank died almost immediately (two days after quarantine). Admittedly we did not quarantine it long, only about a week. Then 3 days later our gobi has suddenly stopped hanging out in his burrow under the rock and has been swimming near the surface for the last 48 hours. Water has plenty of O2 in it, or at least should. Checked water conditions (no2, no3, nh4 all ~zero. Ph ~8) and have been consistently doing 10-20% changes every week to week and a half and closely monitoring what we are able. This strange behavior from our gobi and the death of our other fish coincided with what we are hoping is a sudden pod birthing and we now have tons of what kind of look like pods... but they are a fair amount bigger than what I have read about. Maybe 1/16th to 1/8th inch in length. They are coating our glass and back wall. (Eatting a lot of algae, yay?).
Tang and clownfish are both doing well. Coral are excellent. Worried about our gobi and the sudden emergence of thousands of these bugs.
Any advice on the gobi subject and help identifying these critters would be much appreciated. What little I could find on the gobi behavior was oxygen or being bullied. Tang is the only one that goes near the gobi den and has been in there for nearly as long (1.5 months)... seems weird to just now be an issue.
Thank you!

However I do see what may appear to be a flatworm in the lower right hand side of the picture. Those may need to be removed.
How is he eating ?
