Hi All,

You may have seen me around the past week or so - figured I'd make a post here. I am new to the hobby as an adult and really want to get my feet wet. I'm learning as much as I can right now, hence why you may see me asking a lot of questions especially basic ones.

Anyway, I am starting to figure out what I want and what I can do with the space I have and also beginning to plan/purchase hardware, tests and medications that are needed for the hobby. The largest tank I would consider and can get away with realistically for my apartment would be something along the lines of a Red Sea Reefer 250.

Glad to be here!

250 gallon is awesome!!! But it's also very heavy... make sure the floor can hold the weight especially if you are on the 2nd to 3rd floor.
Also just some friendly advise make sure you read your lease agreement! I have heard of people having to get rid of their tanks due to size and weight!!! Good luck with your tank!!

Welcome to R2R. You've found a great reef/fish forum. I'd like to see you start a "Member's Tank" thread and document your build. Again, welcome! :p

Oh lol hahahhaha - o_O I was going to say 250 in an apartment yikes!!! ;Hilarious

haha yeah no kidding. Well the funny thing about that...I own an apartment in a Co-op and they have a "no pet" policy. But I am going to take the approach that this policy refers to typical animals like dogs, cats etc.

And thanks everyone!

Welcome!
A 60 long would be great for a renter, but that's one thing I would do. A long tank gives extra surface area for O2 exchange, and will give a better overall look, instead of tall.
Good Luck

Great idea, I do prefer the longer look to the cube look just because I feel like I would get to see more (but that's merely an assumption, since I haven't owned either).

BTW, for the record my apartment is a 1 bedroom 670 sq. ft just so you all know what I'm working with.

Welcome to R2R!!!

Welcome to R2R! You'll enjoy your Red Sea Reefer if you decide on it. The 250 is popular. There's a great thread on here devoted to the reefer series. Highly recommend you checking it out if you haven't already. Long read, but well worth it.

Also, check out pelphrey's build. He has a 250 with a ton of info from the start.
