110 g cycled 2 clowns one scissor tail usual cuc 6 weeks and all params great. setting qt up, can i use the water from main tank after water cycle to place in qt tank or start with new water. my thoughts would be it would have been already cycled thanks

Use new water in quarantine. The tank water if infected will invite new problems

I would use the tank water and some media from your sump to seed the bacteria in your qt

If that were the case wouldn't the fish encounter problems as soon as it's moved from QT to DT? I assumed it was better to use tank water as the fish would be acclimated to the tank before it is done with QT.

Cycled water does not mean the tank would be cycled but pertains to water quality. If the display tank does not have fish which I assume did- then yes use it.
I guess my assumption was you were moving fish from display to quarantine

I think we both misunderstood each other. My question wasn't about cycled water; I know everyone has their own methods of controlling ammonia in QT. If I were to add new fish to a tank as in OP's situation, I thought it was better to conduct a water change and use the old tank water to fill the QT tank. My thought process is concerning tank parameters as a whole. If I put a fish in QT filled with water that I removed from the DT, the fish would acclimate to parameters from the running system instead of freshly mixed water. This sounds like it would make the fishes transition into the system easier as it's not having to readjust as much. Does that make sense?

Agreed

To onemako - apart for the water discussion, some folks (me) use bio balls and or a porous sponge filter from a cycled tank - yours presumably - nested in there fro a reasonable period, to add to the QT to speed up the cycle - that and water changes to keep the ammonium from biting you. Of course those balls/sponges should not go back into the DT without serious cleaning.
-edit, do not use rocks from the 110 for media support, as they will bind up the Cu you are using for treatment

the water will have bacteria in it, but the important cycling bacteria (de-ammniphying and de-nitrifing) are on the rocks and substrate - welcome and lkeep the questions coming !!

I also use the sponge for the bacteria. I keep a couple in my sump just for that reason.

New water with just a filter no rocks. Cycling refers to the rock not water

thanks everyone, a lot of knowledgeable people here. Glad to be a member
