New to posting here and Reefkeeping

Hi everyone, I have been reading on this forum for about a year, but I just got my account today. I set up my first real tank (red sea max nano) a little less than a year ago, and the insight of people on this forum was always the first resource that I read when my tank was looking rough. I set up the tank on May 8th of last year, and it has been a long journey. It has two ocellaris clowns, a royal gramma, and an assortment of LPS and anemones. Recently, the tank has been under assault by a veritable swarm of bubble algae. I tried dosing vibrant, but after reading about recent chemical analyses and having a Trachy get rather ill, I discontinued it. Some other things that I have considered include dosing Reef Flux, risking the various perils of emerald crabs, and "renting" a baby fox face or tang for about a month. (I know somebody who maintains several 100+ gallon aquariums that could fit something of that sort, once they grow too big for my tank.) Of these ideas, which sounds like the most sensible course of action, or does anybody have other ideas? In particular, do you think it is OK to keep a baby fox face or Biota tang for 2-4 weeks in a 20 gallon display? I am aware that they need a long term tank of 100+ gallons, but I decided that I might as well run this idea by some reefers with more experience with tangs and foxfaces. I am looking forward to using this forum frequently and conferring with a community of other reefers.
Welcome to Da Reef!

Welcome! Glad you joined. Are you siphoning out your bubble algae? You don't list your water parameters, but I suspect something other than Vibrant impacted your trachy as mine went thru our many months treatment to resolve bubble algae and hair algae (Vibrant cleared up our bubble WAY before hair algae... that hair algae is TOUGH)

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Thank you for responding. No, I have not siphoned out the bubble algae yet. Before I dosed Vibrant, my parameters were all OK, but I suspect that the Vibrant caused the tank's PH to become to acidic, and the alkalinity to crash. I will try to siphon out the bubble algae today. Thank you for your idea!

Welcome to R2R and the salty world. I used emerald crab, and also pull some out carefully by hand. Lots of knowledgeable and helpful people here who will support and advise you when needed.

Thank you! It got a cleaner shrimp a few months ago, and it grew super quick for a while. There is another one, but it found a place where it can't be photographed.
It ate your cleaner shrimp?!?!

It ate your cleaner shrimp?!?!
Yep. The cleaner shrimp may have just landed on it after dying from shedding issues, because it still had it's shed stuck on it. I woke up one morning, and it had the head sticking out of its mouth. I got a fire shrimp afterwards, who seems to be more anemone savvy.

OK, so after some deliberation, I think that the best course of action for me to take about the bubble algae is to acquire a temporary tomini or kole tang under two inches long. The fish will be drip acclimated for 1 hour, and have access to nori twice a day (although the large quantities of bubble algae and ulva lettuce may make the nori unnecessary). It will be under close observation to determine if it is stressed and/or cramped. If it is, a new home could be found for it within two days. Does this sound like a good plan to you all? If not, please let me know, and thank you for taking the time to read this.

Welcome and yes try the emerald crabs get a few of them as some eat it some don't. But chances are they will help with your bubble problem. And they are pretty cool too...
Do you think that they would behave? I have read and heard horror stories about them finding LPS or fish tasty. Thank you for the idea.

They behave for the most part. I mean they are animals but small ones tend to just eat what they are supposed to ...I have a few in my big tank and they dont seem to pick at anything. They are cool little guys. I love when the moons come on and they come out to feed. It's really cool
