Hello everyone! I just wanted to start a quick post and introduce myself. I have been lurking for months and finally feel that I have gained enough knowledge to start asking questions and what not. I will get a post started on Members Tanks to update as I go (keep your eyes peeled for it).

I have kept freshwater since I have been a teenager, but military got me out of the hobby for awhile. Since I have gotten out, finished college and finally settled down into my career I appear to have found the time to get back into it alongside with my fishing hobby (which is very expensive too by the way! BOAT=Bust Out Another Thousand).

I picked a tank up on craigslist 55 gallon acrylic for dirt cheap and cleaned it up. Built a quick stand over a weekend (like circular saw and drill type job). Got a new RO unit and 55 gallon drum (food grade) and picked up 80lbs of dry reef rock/40 pounds of sand and got my tank cycling (ammonia/bacteria supplement). I just recently got my first light (next one in a couple weeks) right as my cycling was finishing up.

I made my first mistake and purchased a fish before researching him (impulse buy) and slapped a single Maroon Clown in there (later I found out how aggressive they are, but plan to give him a shot hoping to pair him with a female before he converts or one smaller). My plan is to take everything really slow, but it is so tempting! I am not planning a fish heavy tank as I plan to grow mostly coral once my tank becomes better established. Anyways I am glad to meet you all and hope to become a contributing member to everything this website has to offer from this point forward and learning as much as I can along the way! Cheers!

I like my Maroon's. I agree they are very aggressive. My now female became an assassin and killed two mate new mates after the original mate passed of she black widowed the first mate:rolleyes: The third time was the charm. The couple have been together for some time now. It does help to have an anemone in the system and from reading Maroon will host in bubble tips only.

I plan to get a bubble tip for sure once the tank matures a bit!

Welcome home, you will love it here!

Thanks for your service, nice start on your tank! :)

Welcome.
Taking things slow the first time is the hardest part of this hobby.
