So, a couple months back I made the mistake of trying to clean out/organize my garage and found an old 10g tank and since the wife wasn't home set it up and started a freshwater tank.
Of course I couldn't stop there.... over $2k+ later I have a new JBJ45 setup going. It's a sickness.
Anyway, I bought a bunch of stuff based on all the forums, reviews, research, etc... and probably went overboard. Some of the filtration stuff I'm sure is redundant and overkill which is what I'm asking about... Here's my complete list:
jbj 45 w/stand
kessil 160we
tunze 9004 skimmer (just came and have to install)
Tunze USA 3152 ATO
Jebao WP-10 (not using currently... may add for additional varying flow)
Maxspect Gyre xf130
Cobalt Aquatics Power Head/Pump MJ1200 (using for saltwater mixing.... probably will use on phosban 150)
DA ReefKeeper Lite + SLX Expansion Unit w/pH Probe (not configured properly as of yet)
4-Stage RO/DI + AquaFx chloramine upgrade kit
2 - inTank media baskets (from top to bottom)... OVERKILL??
--> filter floss(polyfill), matrix, chemi-pure elite
--> filter floss(polyfill), matrix, purigen
phosban reactor 150 - WHICH TO USE?
-> DrTim's Aquatics 802 NP-Active Pearls
-> D-D Rowahos Phosphate Remover
Chemicals (overkill/redundant for sure but will end up using I'm sure):
Red Sea Reef Foundation liquid starter KIT (ABC)
Seachem Reef Plus, Complete, Builder, Advantage Ca, Advantage Mg
Test kits:
Red Sea Reef Foundation Test Kit
API Reef Master
API Saltwater
Livestock:
2 - Fancy Clownfish
1 - Royal Gramma
1 - Lawnmower Blenny
1 - Cleaner Shrimp
1 - Fire Shrimp
A few starter corals (ZOA's, Duncan frag, GSP, green hammer frag, purple tip frogspawn).
My question(s) are (**chem levels seem to be all in line so far, except nitrates are 5-10):
1. Media baskets - any problems with using all 3 (matrix, purigen and chemi-pure)? Should I ditch any of them?
2. I bought the phosban 150 not really knowing if I needed it or what I would use in it. Which should I use the Rowa or biopellets?
