Hi everyone!
I am contemplating my first SW tank at the moment; I currently have two small FW tanks (6 and 10 gal) but I will be slowly winding them down in the near future, so that I can focus on SW (I may keep the 10 gal though, not sure hehe). I’ve been reading this forum for the last few days and I gotta admit, I got a little bit of information overload (I guess there can be too much of a good thing after all:squigglemouth
. So what I am trying to do is to plan out the choices and the budget before I dive in. I consider myself a beginner still as I have to admit that my FW tanks are far from perfect, and I have no experience whatsoever in SW.
As for the tank, I have been recommended an RSM 250 as a beginner-friendly plug-and-play. What is the general consensus on this tank? I noticed in the posts that people have been changing the lighting and the heater on it, among other things… But if I got a stock one (eyeing one being offered on kijiji), would it hold up well until I know what I’m doing? Another consideration is that I’d prefer not to pay more money than I have to for buying the tank and then switching out the parts right away, as I’m sure the cost of setting up the tank can add up in a hurry! I’m also definitely open to suggestions regarding the tank models in 65-or-so gal range.
Finally, kind of a weird question that bugs me, so I will ask it:smile: When it comes to tanks, what is the maximum size/weight before it becomes a problem for the floor, and requires additional supports in the floor, etc. I am planning to put the tank in the corner of our family room upstairs (second floor), are there any issues with that for a 65 gal tank? Maybe a silly question, please be gentle:bigsmile:.
Thank you in advance for your responses, I know I will need a lot of help along the way!
