New 2 R2R and soon to be new to reefing. My name is Ben and live in a VERY small town in central QLD Australia, last count population of less then 600. I work for Queensland Ambulance Service as an advanced care paramedic and had this brilliant idea to start a reef tank 900km from the nearest ocean. For those of you in the US probs think this is no big deal let me explain. Aus isnt populated like the rest of the world. I have to drive 3hrs to do food shopping. my closest pet shop is also 3hrs away and only sells freshwater fish and supplies. My nearest saltwater pet shop is about 600km away and does not stock alot and 700km till a decent size one. Always up for a challenge. Plus side is i will be the only person that i can find with a saltwater aquarium within min 250km. Gotta count for something :P. I have kept fish since my high school years however salt has always been something that i have wanted to try and in particular "REEF".
So to date all i have are to ocerllaris clowns but the tank and equipment is coming along nicely. I have a 5ft 500L (150gallon) aquarium all custom DIY built with 3ft sump. I will drop a link in below to a vid showing build from start to now.

Joined R2R to share my reefing experience but most importantly "PICK THE BRAINS OF THOSE WHO KNOW BETTER".

Wow that is a lot of adversity to overcome, you must really be passionate about the hobby.

So what are your mail order options?

Great story.

Welcome to R2R;)

Good to have you aboard Ben! You'll find lots of tips n tricks here in R2R to get you started. Great to hear your awesome dedication to the hobby despite the setbacks. I would advice to look into getting your supplies and materials from online orders. I feel that might save you a lot of trouble in the long run. I look forward to seeing more of you around and hope you enjoy your stay :)
