My name is Stuart. I have had a reef LPS ans softies for about 8 years. First 7 were easy and fun. In Feb 12 we were out of town for a week. Home took a major hit of lighting on the day we left and blew up about everything that was plugged into an outlet in my house. As luck has it then it got below freezing for a few days, rare in lower Alabama. Well everything died in the tank but GSP, i hate that stuff but another story, So I had to throw all the stuff away and do some water changes just to stand the smell right away but for the most part I just let the tank set for the past 10 months. In the past month I have noticed I am reading reef sites and hunting for corals again. I have also noticed my 3 little girls have started really asking questions about the tank. I have a 55 gal and yes aquascaping really sucks on the short depth. I also got into bad habits of just using tap water for top offs now too.
Well over the weekend the wife let me know that in Feb she has a home theater company coming out to wire the house and that the living room will be re-arranged and the current tank wall is needed to make her happy. So well I got 2 spots that are free to me and both are about 42 inches wide. Depth is not a big issue so.....I told her that I was going to have to get a new tank to make the move. So I am thinking about a 3x3 cube or something real cubish.
I run VHO now but I see while I have head my head in the sand for a few years that LED lighting has came out.......or has it? Hope to get some real talk about what to do about lighting. Would like to move into SPS this time around.
Also on cubes, with no top and rimless any feedback on how that works with big dogs and small children. Should I not even think about it and just stick to canopies?
