Hello everyone, just wanted to stop by and say hi and ask a few questions, comment about my new toy and hopefully get some advice about the journey we are about to begin on! So with that being said, here we go.....
So my wife and I just decided that a Red Sea 130C was not enough cause we could not have the fish we really wanted. So now we are moving way up to a Red Sea Reefer 450.
So what is this wanted fish, it is a Mandarin, and no I can't believe we are spending so much for one fish lol. We have elected to put a Reef Octopus skimmer that can work with up to 250 gallon (more has to be better lol) and a 1321 gph pump for main sump (adjustable for my needs). We will also be placing a Gyer on the side for general tank flow (a second one might be placed based on flow after I see it set up). I have 1 300 watt heater and we'll get a second for backup set 2 degrees apart (I hope this will work well).
My next hurtle, is lighting; I don't plan on SPF corals so hope to save a bit on my lighting by only going one AP 700 LED or R420R LED 320 watt 1500k light. My problem here is I just am not sure how much light I really need. I don't want to leave myself without room to change my mind about SPF corals but money is money. I am only looking at these lights as I read they are about the best I can get …but am not sure if this is really what I need.?
For now I plan to rely on 2 bags of chemi pure blue, two filter socks, rocks and sand. I also hope to add a light over the sump and turn it into a refugium after all this is all about the Mandarin and if I get some extra filtering so be it, I would also like at some point to place a bead filter in the sump but figure this can wait for a while.
I would really appreciate some help, If anyone has some good suggestions please let me know. I am very new to all this and learn something new almost every day that I didn't know or because I messed it up and thus learned it the hard and expensive way.
