Hello everyone. My name is Billy and im not new to sw but by no means an expert. Had small fish only tanks for about a year and freshwater tanks all my life. Have a 3 yr old son currently and a daughter on the way in early june. I always have questions about things. Yes i do my research first, but always second guess what i find due to the many different opinions out there.

A little about my tank. I bought this 40g breeder for dirt cheap used from a guy who had made a massive upgrade. It has a custom built stand that me and my 3 year old son pit together. He help sand thats about it. He wasnt interested in anything else. Still need to put together a canopy for it. Have a 10 gallon sump currently. Looking for a 20 tall to make a little larger sump to add some water volume to the system. This tank has been up and runnimg about 9 months now.

- equipment
- 40 g breeder tank 10 g sump
- 2 AI prime leds running about 90% blue and purple, cool white at 20%, uv about 65% slowly working it up to about 80%
- hob over flow that works great. Never had it fail. Just clean it up once a month
- running a bh 50 reef octopus skimmer in sump
- led buld in clamp for cheato
- no name return pump rated at 560 gph pushes about 350 after the head height.
- 2 koralia 425 power heads- would love some mp-10s on alternating schedule.

- current fish/invert stock
- 1 regular oc clown
-1 scooter blenny- gets fed lots of pods
-1 skunk cleaner
- various snails- astrea, cerith, stomatella, nassarius... Seem to have a good stock as i dont ever have algae other than the occasional diatom bloom when i change something like adding a sump.
-3 blue leg hermits
-1 happy feather duster

-coral stock
- 10 head duncan almost a neon color
- 2 head duncan different color than the 10 head
- orange cyphastea
- some acans not sure the name
- acan enchinata frag bright green
- 2 favia frags
-1 monti cap frag purple with tiny blue polyps
-green eye leptoseris
- green birdsnest frag about 2 in
- red planet acropora about 1 in snagged from a buddy for free
-20 or so fire and ice zoas polyps
-4 no name zoa polyps

Plan on getting many more coral to fill it out. Would love to do some euphyllia. Have my eye on a garf acro just waiting to make sure my sps dont kick the bucket before pulling the trigger on that one. Probably going to have an lps dominated mixed reef when its done, but who is ever done with searching for new coral to add to their system.

Please forgive my diatoms as i just added the current sump in a little over a week ago. Here is a current pic of the tank for yalls enjoyment.

Thanks. Still looking for an ato. Tired of lugging water from the rodi.
I DIY'd mine and am loving it. First I bought a used JBJ ATO and it worked for the most part but every now and then it would stop topping off until I reset the switch, but then found out it was leaking the full 120v AC into the water through a faulty level switch. So I ended up just throwing a DIY unit together with a couple new level switches, a solid state relay, 12v adapter and an old extension cord. Works flawlessly.
