Hello, It’s Chris from Hawaii. Where it’s illegal to harvest coral from the ocean, or import invertebrates from around the world. A tank full of Zoas and clownfish it is for me. I hope to learn as much as I can to have a healthy Zoa reef setup.

So tell me what does your average fish store have in the way of live stock in Hawaii?
Tahoe,
That's a great question.

Welcome to Reef2Reef.

So tell me what does your average fish store have in the way of live stock in Hawaii?
Because of our location, I’ve noticed that our fish are much more cheaper than LFSs in the states. Just this week I witnessed a Black Sailfin Tang here for $300. I’ve seen it retail anywhere from $900 to $1500 in the states. Other than that Zoanthids are pretty much it.

Welcome home, you will love it here!

Keep us posted with your build with lots of pics! :)

Howzit, Chris!

Kama’aina on the Mainland here...was surprised to find fish stores, but no coral in the Oahu and Big Island shops we visited. We’re planning an eventual move back out there once kids are in college, but would change those plans if we had to do Customs-imposed quarantine of coral and other livestock. We could always don my BC and regulator and harvest what we see, but cuffs on the beach aren’t a pretty site.

Let me know if you want me to bring you some frags in our kids’ baby food jars. They’re both teenagers now...so that may not fly. ;Joyful
