Hello fellow hobbyists!
Right from the top I will open by saying that I am new to this forum but also forums in general. I have always been sort of deterred from forums previously because understanding how they work can be a bit intimidating to me as well as the negative experiences I've heard from friends and fellow colleagues. However, I really care a lot about the survival and success of my livestock and want to be open to the ideas and wealth of knowledge I believe exists on here from its members. So please excuse my ignorance but I will make sure to read the pinned notes in order to get familiar with how R2R works.
I choose R2R because it was the highest recommended forum among others I was doing research on and I only want to attempt to dive into one at a time so here I am.
So here's my story:
Always been interested in aquatic life since I was a kid. Loved going to the National Aquarium at Baltimore Inner Harbor. Loved going to the LFS, reading books, & watching videos on lots of ocean life topics. Had the usual childhood freshwater fish tank growing up. Got into my teen years and drove my mother crazy after I set up 7 fishtanks in my bedroom. Biggest was my 55gal African Cichlids which to me was a "game changer" because 55gal always seemed like the big boy tank growing up. The rest were all freshwater with the exception of my favorite, a nano salt water tank by RedSea (130D). That was it for me. I spent all my money watching that reef tank grow but eventually I had to sell it to pay other obligations. Years went by and I never got another tank although I was always peeked in my interest as RedSea would send me emails about their newest line up to their tanks.
Fast forward to present day and a coworker of mine was being deployed and moving his family. He was currently running a 120g reef tank which I thought was incredible. He had it listed for sale for a long time but couldn't land an offer and even asked me twice to buy it off him. I had just bought a new house and had plans to renovate a few things after moving in but when my buddy came down to less than 2 days away from moving with still no home for his tank I gave in and took all his livestock and setup. The move was very extensive and it took all day. I ordered a RedSea Reefer XXL 750 because I was in love with it and wanted the biggest they could offer. (only to find out shortly afterwards they announced an even bigger bad boy....oh well)
Did a tank swap, upgraded all the equipment and here I am. Trying to provide these guys with the best living conditions they deserve. I would love to share with you all and hope to hear feedback from you guys on your own set ups as well. I do not consider myself a professional at all, just a guy who knows enough to get me where I am today. I love my tank and I love getting others into this hobby when they come to visit.
Thanks in advanced to all who took the time to read and welcome me. I hope I can contribute value to the R2R community and I look forward to hearing from you all.
