Hi, my name is Earl and I just joined today. I was at the Bob Moore frag swap and saw someone with a R2R T shirt. I have been reefing for 4 years and I thoroughly enjoy it. i started with a 36 gallon corner tank, moved up to a 50 gallon. I am now up to a 90 gallon tank and that is as big as I will go, it is all I can take care of. I have a mixed reef, alot of corals from softies to lps, sps and various fish. I have also inherited a cat, but he doesn't seem to be interested in the fish at all. I don't have a favorite fish or coral but I do like getting a coral that is small and watch it grow. During the swap meet I got a couple of corals that they wert sure what they were, so it will be interesting to see what they become. All I know is that they are sps. Glad to be aboard with a forum that caters to my favorite hobby and people in the world, reefers.

Welcome Earl. My name is Dawn and I only joined this month as well. I'm going smaller. My last tank was a 90g and a year ago I downsized to a 36g. You and I should have just swapped tanks!

That might have been cheaper. I would still have the 50 gallon but a guy came over to the house to pick up a frag and he said he had a 90 gallon tank he wanted to get rid of. I told him I was on a fixed income, being retired and I really couldn't afford it. He said just come over and get it and get it out of my garage, stand and all. So I did, but then I had to get bigger lights, skimmer, heater, etc.

I know what you mean because I also had to get new lights. My lights were an upgrade since I ran vho's on the 90g. My bowfront have t5 ho but I also have a deep blue LED strip fixture. I was able to keep my heater, skimmer, UV and pumps though. Its not a cheap hobby for sure.

I was lucky with the skimmer, it is a Bubble Magus NAC 6. It was regularly $220.00 but it was on sale at 170.00, still a lot but it is rated for 180 gallons and does a great job. I got 4-48" strips of Current Tru Lumen light strips. Two are a mix of whites with blue and two are all blue, my corals just love them, the fish don't care one way or another. I had T5's before when I had the 50g but thought I would try the LED's, I think they both are fine, but I like the shimmer of the LED's.

Yes, I also like the shimmer of LEDs. I would have loved to do all LEDs but had to consider the cost, although I might have made it up in electricity usage in the long run. Sounds like a great deal on the skimmer. My prizm pro skimmer is not the best but it is a HOB where I have space and my sump is only a 10g with fuge. Also I already had it which was a plus. Looking forward to your pics.
